BankWare
Announces Name Change of Platform Product
Birmingham,
AL, March 23, 2000 - BankWare
announces the official name change of its existing AS/400 based Platform
Automation Solution to the name of PlatformCentre™. In addition,
PlatformCentre is now available as an Internet Browser-enabled solution,
an industry first in the financial services market.
“PlatformCentre
will be the new name of our existing AS/400 based platform automation
solution. This product is utilized today by more than 200 financial
institutions, and will continue to be supported and enhanced for the
foreseeable future,” said Ken Bush, principle of BankWare. “With the
name change, we hope to build identifiable brand awareness of the
PlatformCentre solution in the financial services industry.”
For
financial institutions that utilize BankWare’s PlatformCentre, the
newest enhancement to be made is the Internet Browser-enabling of all
user screens within the system. This upgrade allows a financial
institution the ability to replace all of their “text based green
screens” with a friendly graphical user interface (GUI) look and feel.
The initial installation of Internet Browser-enabled PlatformCentre will
occur in April 2000.
“Our
clients have asked us for a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to our
existing platform application, and Internet Browser-enabling is a great
solution,” stated Mr. Bush. “Browser-enabling our existing
application enables clients to operate in a much more ‘PC-like’
manner and eliminate all of the text based green screens.”
“One
of the greatest benefits of Web-enabling our existing solution is making
the product easier to use. The AS/400 and host screens intimidate many
people, especially those who are familiar with PC’s. However, the
Internet Browser look and feel is comfortable to anyone that has ever
used the Internet,” said Bob Darty, principle at BankWare.
“While
BankWare will continue to support our existing platform solution to all
clients, this is an enhancement to make our solution easier to utilize
and more user-friendly,” continued Mr. Darty. “As the software
industry evolves, Browser-based and Browser-enabled solutions are the
future of the entire computing industry. As a company, Browser-enabling
PlatformCentre is consistent with our other company initiatives.”
Recognizing
the transformation in the marketplace and information technology,
BankWare recently introduced and brought to market ImageCentre™ -- the
financial industry’s first and only Internet Browser-based check
imaging, document imaging, remittance processing, and COLD solution.
Other
Industry Platform Automation Solutions
While
many vendors have built “proprietary PC- and Windows-based
solutions,” BankWare opted for supporting the information
technology’s transformation from “fat client server-based”
solutions to “Browser-enabled thin client solutions.”
“Implementing
a PC-based platform automation solution can oftentimes create more
headaches than benefits,” stated Andy Botzer, national sales manager
at BankWare. “In addition to typically reducing functionality in
updating the core banking solution, there is a whole new spectrum of
additional complexity created in installing, maintaining, and upgrading
software on every PC within an institution. Compounding the challenge of
managing all of this client side software is the difficulty in finding
quality information technology specialists.”
“With
the evolution and advancement of the Internet, we are in the midst of
sweeping technological changes that fundamentally impact the manner in
which we distribute information, communicate with others, and
interact,” said Mr. Botzer. “As all industries embrace the Internet,
it is merely a matter of time before all mainstream software
applications will either be Browser-based or Browser-enabled.”
